    Hi All,

In the past any CAT2 items had to have tubes of 20mm or less and contain less than 200g of powder.

CAT 2 products can now contain up to 500 grams with a caliber 25mm plus under
    BS EN 15947

Oooooooo that can only be good, and mean an expansion of the 8m range :)

Excellent - one problem in the past (this is going back to before EN Cat 2) is that Cat 3 cakes were pretty amazing and Cat 2 were not, there was such a large gap between them. One side effect of that was the number of people using Cat 3 at less distances than they should. If Cat 2 gets a nice boost like this we should hopefully be seeing not just better displays at smaller distances but safer ones too.

I think that cat 3 is changing to 1000g, 30mm and 15m although don't quote me on it.

That on the other hand is not so good.... although the will be a definative difference between retail and professional.....

What is Cat3 powder limit atm on cakes? 1500g?

It's great to see CAT2 specs upped, it's already improved so much in the last couple of years. Some really nice pieces out there now!

ah ok thats good, im not very up to date on Cat3!

Some of the cat2 demo's I saw last year really surprised me on their performance, thought they were cat3.
I think it would be a grave mistake to reduce the cat3 safety distance on most cakes, as they seem to have 'fall-out'
Issues that go beyond 25m as it is...

If this reduction of CAT3 is to be the case,it is more likely that the powers that be have been influenced by the fact that a lot of people do not respect the 25m rule or even have gardens with enough room to safely fire CAT3. Personally I feel it could be a terrible decision and limit the decent 'pro end' pyros available, influenced by the wrong factors but on the other hand, I guess it could allow us to have decent CAT2 plus still fairly decent CAT3 where pretty much everyone can fire them safely and within the law. This may well mean the yearly "ban fireworks" shouters may have less ammunition, pun intended.

I was really impressed with this little lot at the start of my GFN show. Mix of Royal Party and Brothers. Looking forward to some new Cat 2 stuff.

To see what this means in terms of the products now allowed into CAT 2. Have a look at Vulcan/Shogun's new CE approved CAT 2 range- http://www.shogun.com.hk/product.php?cid=190&target=1.

There are some absolute corkers in there, including fanned barrages. Take a look at "Bank Job"- http://www.shogun.com.hk/file/product/EC030013-f4efd622943834.mov (It may take a while for the video to load, but it's worth it).

My favourite is probably "Rip and Roll", a PROPER finalé- http://www.shogun.com.hk/file/product/EC030004-f4efd67b9c5f63.mov

Some great pieces but just because it says EU CE Cat2 doesn't mean it meets the UK specs!

It never is that simple is it?

What aspects of an EU Cat2 fireworks could mean it's not legal for sale on our fine shores?

I thought EU Cat 2 was fine from certain countries with the exception of the usual (bangers, shells etc) and that was the point of it?
